Janhvi Kapoor, one of Bollywood’s young voices, has often spoken openly about important issues. In a recent podcast appearance, the actress addressed how being overly sexualized and photographed without consent has impacted her over the years.
Janhvi Kapoor on sensual roles and public perception
During a conversation with Raj Shamani, Janhvi Kapoor reflected on her upbringing, her parents Boney Kapoor and Sridevi, and her journey in the film industry. She also spoke about being photographed from different angles and being sexualized, especially after performing in sensual songs.
Referring to the track Bheegi Saree from her 2025 film Param Sundari, the actress explained that the intent behind the song was sensual rather than provocative. She shared that if viewers didn’t find her appealing in that context, it would feel disheartening, as the performance was meant to evoke attraction in a cinematic sense.
“Consent matters in every form”
However, Janhvi Kapoor emphasized the clear difference between performing a sensual role and being objectified without consent. She stated that any form of sexualization beyond her approval is something she strongly disagrees with and finds upsetting.
She also raised concerns about paparazzi capturing her from angles she is not comfortable with, often for the sake of views and attention. The actress pointed out that even when she feels confident about her appearance, certain photographs taken without her consent can be misrepresented and widely circulated online.
Kapoor stressed that such instances violate her personal boundaries, adding that the same principle applies on film sets as well. If a director of photography frames a shot in a way she is uncomfortable with, she believes she should have the right to object.
What’s next for Janhvi Kapoor
On the professional front, Janhvi Kapoor is currently working on her upcoming Telugu action film Peddi, which also stars Ram Charan, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, and Divyenndu.
