Priyadarshan recently spoke about his much-awaited upcoming film Bhooth Bangla and the frequent comparisons it has drawn with Bhool Bhulaiyaa. In the same interview, he also shared that collaborating repeatedly with talented actors has always benefited his projects.
Priyadarshan opens up about Akshay Kumar in Bhooth Bangla
Reacting to the strong response to the film’s announcement and teaser, Priyadarshan said expectations often become the biggest challenge. He explained that every film is unique and should not be compared to others. According to him, Bhool Bhulaiyaa was essentially a psychological thriller, whereas Bhooth Bangla is rooted in fantasy. He added that the story draws inspiration from widespread superstitions in India, where many people believe in ghosts and perform various rituals.
Talking about his collaborations, the director revealed that working with actors like Akshay Kumar and Akshaye Khanna has often brought him good fortune. He described Akshay as an extremely versatile performer who can effortlessly handle both comic and serious roles. Priyadarshan also recalled their earlier collaborations in films such as Hungama and Hulchul.
He also mentioned that the song Ram Ji Bhala Karenge was intentionally designed to remind audiences of Bhool Bhulaiyaa. However, he clarified that the resemblance is limited only to certain horror elements, while the overall storyline and treatment of the two films are entirely different.
The filmmaker further dismissed rumors suggesting that Bhooth Bangla is a sequel to the 2007 hit. He stressed that the film has no connection with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and insisted that the two projects may share some entertaining elements but are fundamentally different.
Meanwhile, Bhooth Bangla features a star-studded cast including Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Asrani, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi. The horror-comedy is scheduled to arrive in theatres on April 10, 2026.
