Anil Kapoor might be gearing up to bring one of his most iconic roles back to life. The Bollywood veteran has reportedly acquired the rights to his 2001 hit Nayak: The Real Hero, a full 25 years after the film first hit theatres. Fans are now buzzing with speculation that a sequel could finally be on the cards.
According to sources, Kapoor has always held the film close to his heart and is seriously considering continuing the story. “He knows the love the audience has for Nayak, and he believes the story has huge potential for a second part,” an insider revealed. Previously, producer Deepak Mukut had held the rights, but Kapoor has now secured them himself, though Mukut hasn’t commented publicly on the handover.
For context, Nayak follows the story of Shivaji Rao Gaekwad (played by Anil Kapoor), an ordinary man who takes on the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Balraj Chauhan (Amrish Puri), and is given the chance to step into the CM’s shoes for 24 hours. The film became a cult classic for its mix of political drama, action, and Anil Kapoor’s charismatic performance. Rani Mukerji, Paresh Rawal, and Johnny Lever played pivotal roles alongside him.
With Kapoor now in control of the rights, fans are hopeful that the legendary political actioner could return to the big screen—this time, with a new chapter to explore.
