Awarapan 2 is among the most-awaited films of 2026, and the buzz around the tragic musical love story has only intensified with developments surrounding its distribution rights. Starring Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani, the sequel had reportedly attracted interest from several major players in the entertainment industry eager to secure its theatrical distribution.
It has now exclusively learned that Pen Marudhar has acquired the distribution rights of Awarapan 2. According to sources close to the development, the deal has been finalized on an advance commission basis. While the exact financial details remain undisclosed, industry circles suggest the agreement was locked at a significant price, reflecting the strong market confidence surrounding the film.
The acquisition is seen as a strategic move, especially considering the film’s high-profile box office clash with Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta starrer Lahore 1947, reportedly titled Batwara 1947, over the Independence Day weekend in 2026. Pen Marudhar’s experience in handling large-scale theatrical clashes in recent years is believed to have played a key role in sealing the deal. Backed by the distribution network of Pen Studios, the film is expected to receive a massive nationwide release despite the competition.
The romantic genre witnessed a strong resurgence in Hindi cinema last year, with several musically driven love stories emerging as surprise successes at the box office. Riding on that trend, Awarapan 2 has generated significant anticipation among audiences. Although the original Awarapan underperformed theatrically upon release, it gradually attained cult status through television and satellite viewership, particularly for its emotional storytelling and memorable soundtrack.
