Obsession continues its dream run at the Indian box office, delivering a sensational performance on its second Saturday. The horror thriller grossed an estimated Rs. 8 crore on Day 9, marking the biggest single-day collection of its theatrical run so far.

The achievement is particularly remarkable considering the film opened with just Rs. 1.60 crore on its first day. In just over a week, the movie has multiplied its daily earnings several times over, showcasing one of the strongest growth trajectories seen for a Hollywood release in India.

Extraordinary week-on-week growth

The film’s second Saturday collections surged by approximately 150 percent compared to its first Saturday, highlighting exceptional audience acceptance and word-of-mouth.

The Rs. 8 crore haul comfortably surpassed the previous highest single-day figure of Rs. 3.75 crore recorded on the first Sunday. Going by current advance bookings, the record may not stand for long, with another jump expected on Sunday.

Rs. 50 crore milestone within reach

After nine days in theatres, Obsession has accumulated approximately Rs. 33.85 crore gross (USD 3.55 million) in India.

The second weekend is now expected to finish in the Rs. 20.50-21 crore range, which would be more than three times higher than its opening weekend and nearly equal to the film’s entire first-week earnings.

At its current pace, the horror blockbuster is likely to cross the Rs. 50 crore mark during its second week, potentially as early as Wednesday. Industry projections now suggest a lifetime finish exceeding Rs. 80 crore, with an outside chance of challenging the year’s highest-grossing Hollywood releases in India.

A low-budget success story

Reportedly produced on a modest budget of around USD 750,000 (approximately Rs. 6.75 crore), Obsession has emerged as one of the most profitable theatrical success stories of the year.

Even after accounting for marketing and distribution expenses, the film’s total investment is believed to be relatively low compared to its box-office returns. The theatrical share from India alone is expected to far exceed its production cost, underlining the film’s extraordinary profitability.

The success of Obsession also demonstrates that compelling storytelling and effective execution can deliver impressive commercial results without requiring massive budgets. Its performance serves as a notable example of how carefully managed productions can connect with audiences and generate substantial returns at the box office.
