Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji and starring Suriya alongside Trisha Krishnan, finally released in theaters on May 15, 2026, after a brief delay. While the fantasy action drama has been receiving positive reactions from audiences, singer and dubbing artist Chinmayi Sripaada also earned praise for dubbing Trisha’s character, Preethi. However, the singer admitted that she initially felt hesitant about publicly revealing her involvement in the film.
Chinmayi says she was ‘afraid’ to speak about Karuppu
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Chinmayi Sripaada shared an emotional note about her fears regarding the project. She revealed that she had genuinely been afraid to announce that she had dubbed for Karuppu.
According to Chinmayi, her concern largely came from the backlash she experienced after dubbing for Trisha Krishnan in Leo. She explained that she deeply respects RJ Balaji and his family and did not want them to face criticism because of her involvement.
The singer also praised RJ Balaji, describing him as someone whose life reflects determination, grit, and years of hard work to achieve his dreams. She mentioned that knowing him and his family personally made her even more anxious about potential backlash surrounding the film.
Emotional dubbing experience
Chinmayi Sripaada further revealed that dubbing certain scenes in the movie became emotionally overwhelming for her. She shared that some moments during the dubbing process triggered painful memories from her past, making her cry while recording those sequences.
Despite her fears, the singer expressed gratitude toward RJ Balaji for trusting her with the opportunity. She ended her message with hope, saying she wished Karuppu and “Karuppu Saami” would help her continue working in her own industry without fear or uncertainty.
