After completing Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, Vicky Kaushal is preparing to move on to his next major venture — Maddock Films’ mythological epic Mahavatar, directed by Amar Kaushik. Sources indicate that the actor will begin an intensive preparation phase in June 2026, immediately after wrapping his current commitments on Bhansali’s film, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
According to insiders, Vicky has signed on for a demanding six-month training regimen that will focus on physical transformation, muscle gain, and specialized acting workshops designed specifically for the role. The preparation goes beyond appearance, with a strong emphasis on understanding the character’s psychological depth and emotional journey. Amar Kaushik has reportedly crafted a detailed prep plan to help Vicky fully embody the part.
The film is expected to go on floors in January 2027, with shooting scheduled to continue for nearly a year, concluding around December 2027. During this time, Vicky intends to dedicate himself entirely to Mahavatar, avoiding other professional commitments to maintain consistency in his performance.
Sources add that the actor views Mahavatar as a defining project in his career and wants to remain fully committed, which is why he has chosen not to take on additional work during the shoot. However, there is still a slim chance he may fit in a short project before filming begins, depending on how it aligns with his preparation schedule.
Meanwhile, Love & War is set to begin a crucial 50-day shooting schedule in May 2026. Bhansali is aiming to complete the film by the end of June, with a planned theatrical release on January 21, 2027.
With two large-scale films lined up back-to-back, Vicky Kaushal appears to be entering a particularly significant phase in his career.
