Ranveer Singh is currently enjoying the success of his film Dhurandhar 2, which continues to perform well in theatres. As he gears up for his next project, the zombie thriller Pralay, speculation has emerged about whether the film is a remake or adaptation of the 2008 movie Blindness. Here’s what producer Hansal Mehta had to say.

Is Pralay a remake of Blindness?

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Hansal Mehta firmly dismissed the rumours, clarifying that Pralay is not based on Blindness. He stated, “It’s not an adaptation. Jai and Vishal Kapoor have written an original story.”

He further explained that adapting the work of Portuguese author José Saramago for the screen would be quite challenging, reinforcing that the upcoming film is entirely original.

For context, Blindness (2008), starring Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo, revolves around a mysterious epidemic that causes widespread blindness, leading to societal collapse. Despite thematic similarities, Mehta confirmed that Pralay is not connected to it.

How Ranveer Singh joined the project

During the same conversation, Hansal Mehta also revealed how Ranveer Singh became part of the film.

He shared that director Jai Mehta had been developing the concept for a long time. After seeing his work, Ranveer reached out to him directly. Jai then narrated the idea of Pralay, and once the actor showed interest, the team moved forward with developing the project on a larger scale.

More about Pralay

Pralay is an upcoming zombie thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world. The film is being produced by Hansal Mehta under True Story Films, with Ranveer Singh also coming on board as a co-producer through his banner Maa Kasam Films.

The project marks the directorial debut of Jai Mehta, who has co-written the script with Vishal Kapoor. Mounted on a large scale, the film is expected to go on floors in mid-2026 and may feature Kalyani Priyadarshan as the female lead, marking her Bollywood debut.
