Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar

At the close of business yesterday, Dhurandhar: The Revenge had reached approximately ₹784.50 crore nett, just ₹5 crore short of its predecessor, Dhurandhar. By now, the Ranveer Singh starrer has already surpassed that figure, officially becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time in India. This marks the second time a Ranveer Singh film has achieved the all-time record.

The film is expected to cross the ₹800 crore nett milestone today and is well on track to reach the ₹1000 crore mark by the end of its theatrical run.

Over the decades, several landmark films have set new box office records, including classics like Mother India, Mughal-e-Azam, and Sholay.

In more recent years, the record has frequently changed hands, with films such as Dangal, Pathaan, Jawan, and Pushpa 2 pushing the benchmark higher. The original Dhurandhar then emerged as a surprise blockbuster, breaking previous records, and now its sequel has raised the bar even further.

In the past few years, record-breaking margins were relatively small, allowing subsequent releases to overtake them quickly. However, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has created a significant gap, aided by strong audience reception and higher ticket pricing, making its record potentially more durable.

That said, the film may soon face strong competition from Ramayana: Part One, which is expected to release later this year and could once again redefine box office benchmarks for Hindi cinema.

Note: Earlier box office figures, especially before Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), are approximate due to limited data and varying taxation systems, which also affects comparisons between nett and gross collections.
