Ranbir Kapoor Breaks the Chain, Builds a Closer Bond with Daughter Raha
Ranbir Kapoor, scion of the legendary Kapoor family and son of Neetu Kapoor and the late Rishi Kapoor, is redefining fatherhood in his own way. Speaking about his relationship with his father, Ranbir revealed that it was marked by a certain distance — something he doesn’t want to repeat with his and Alia Bhatt’s daughter, Raha.
“You know, my father’s relationship with me… there was a little bit of a distance. There wasn’t really a friendship. That’s how that generation was,” Ranbir shared, describing it as a “glass wall” that existed between the two generations.
But with Raha, Ranbir is determined to do things differently. “With my child, I definitely want to break that glass wall. I want to be a friend to her…and give her the wings to fly, in whichever direction she likes,” he said. His words highlight a desire for openness, closeness, and freedom in parenting — a conscious shift from the more traditional approach he experienced.
Ranbir also spoke about the weight of carrying forward a storied legacy. While acknowledging the enormous achievements of the previous generation, he emphasized that anyone stepping into the Kapoor spotlight must also carve their own path, blending heritage with individuality.
Remembering Rishi Kapoor
Rishi Kapoor, one of Bollywood’s iconic actors from the 1970s onwards, enjoyed a career filled with hits and left behind a rich legacy in both cinema and family. Married to Neetu Singh, he had two children, Ranbir and Riddhima Kapoor. His passing at 67 left a void, but Ranbir continues to honor the Kapoor name with daring roles and major film projects, while also crafting his own identity as a father and actor.
