Awarapan 2 witnessed a major drop in collections on its second Wednesday and Thursday following the arrival of Toxic in cinemas. The Emraan Hashmi starrer wrapped up its second week with Rs. 29.20 crore nett, with Thursday contributing an estimated Rs. 50 lakh. However, the film could witness a spike over the third weekend, as the makers have introduced a Buy-One-Get-One offer for the Raksha Bandhan weekend.
Awarapan 2 closes Week 2 at Rs. 29 crore
The running cume of Awarapan 2 reached Rs. 140.20 crore nett at the Indian box office after 14 days. Despite losing a significant number of screens to Toxic, the film has maintained a strong overall run and is currently heading towards a lifetime total of around Rs. 150 crore nett.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, the romantic action drama has already emerged as a Super HIT venture.
Awarapan 2 is a sequel to the 2007 film, which was a DISASTER upon its original theatrical release but went on to develop a cult following over the years. The success of intense romantic dramas with popular music last year brought renewed attention to Emraan Hashmi, who was one of the leading names in the genre during the 2000s and early 2010s.
Hashmi was at the peak of his career during that period with films such as Murder 2, Raaz 3, Jannat 2 and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, before his box-office fortunes declined during the latter half of the decade.
The revival of the intense romance genre eventually paved the way for Awarapan 2, and the decision has paid off handsomely. The film has achieved the rare feat of turning a sequel to a former theatrical DISASTER into a major success.
Last year, films such as Sanam Teri Kasam and Laila Majnu found renewed success through re-releases, while Awarapan 2 has taken that revival to another level with its theatrical performance.
The day-wise box office collections of Awarapan 2 in India are as follows:
| Day | Nett Collections |
|---|---|
| Week 1 | Rs. 111.50 crore |
| 2nd Friday | Rs. 5.25 crore |
| 2nd Saturday | Rs. 8.00 crore |
| 2nd Sunday | Rs. 8.50 crore |
| 2nd Monday | Rs. 3.00 crore |
| 2nd Tuesday | Rs. 3.25 crore |
| 2nd Wednesday | Rs. 0.70 crore |
| 2nd Thursday | Rs. 0.50 crore (est.) |
| Total | Rs. 140.20 crore |
With the Buy-One-Get-One offer in place for the Raksha Bandhan weekend, Awarapan 2 will now look to recover some momentum in its third week and move closer to the Rs. 150 crore nett mark.
