The ensemble cast of Sandeep Singh’s upcoming mega-budget historical epic, The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has received a major star-studded addition. Actress Bhumi Pednekar has officially joined the pan-India project and will portray the legendary warrior queen Belawadi Mallamma, known for her extraordinary courage and resilience.

The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious historical projects in Indian cinema. The two-part saga stars Kantara actor Rishab Shetty in the titular role of the legendary Maratha king.
For Bhumi Pednekar, stepping into the role of Belawadi Mallamma marks a major shift into the action-drama genre. Speaking about joining the project, the actress expressed her excitement about the opportunity.
The Times of India quoted her as saying, “I’m honoured to be part of a film on the life and legacy of the great Maratha warrior-king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It’s a privilege for me to play Karnataka’s brave warrior queen, Belawadi Mallamma, and bring her to life on screen. I am a huge Kantara fan, and Rishab Shetty’s stunning performance blew me away… This is unlike anything I’ve done before.”
The film also features a powerful ensemble cast, with Shefali Shah portraying Rajmata Jijabai, while Arjun Rampal and Vivek Oberoi are set to appear in pivotal supporting roles.
Mounted on a grand scale, the two-part historical saga is directed and produced by Sandeep Singh. Composer Amit Trivedi is handling the music, legendary lyricist Prasoon Joshi is penning the songs, and Rishi Virmani is responsible for the screenplay.
The period drama is expected to go on floors later this year, with the first part scheduled for a grand theatrical release on January 21, 2027.
For the unversed, Belawadi Mallamma holds a revered place in Indian history and is remembered as one of the bravest women warriors of the 17th century. Hailing from Karnataka, she is celebrated for her fierce resistance and extraordinary courage.
