Dhurandhar: The Revenge sold around 1.25 lakh tickets across national cinema chains—PVR INOX and Cinepolis—within the first 24 hours of advance bookings for its opening day. Technically, this isn’t the film’s first full day of sales overall, since preview shows have been available for nearly a week. However, it marks the first 24 hours that tickets were available specifically for the opening day.
With these numbers, the film becomes the second-highest first-day ticket seller in these chains, trailing only Jawan, which sold about 1.5 lakh tickets in the same period. However, this comparison does not tell the complete story. So far, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has already sold around 2.9 lakh tickets for preview shows in these chains. Even with a conservative estimate, at least 1 lakh of those bookings might have been made for the opening day within 24 hours, if preview sales had not opened earlier. In fact, the number could have been significantly higher—possibly even surpassing the record set by Jawan. Since preview bookings started earlier, the film’s true first-day demand cannot be accurately measured.
Typically, films witness a slowdown in ticket sales after the initial surge of advance bookings. While Dhurandhar: The Revenge is expected to see a similar dip, the drop may not be as steep. Because tickets have been available for previews for a week, much of the early booking demand has already been absorbed, which usually drives the massive first-day numbers for advance sales.
Looking ahead, the immediate milestone for the film is to surpass the opening-day advance booking record of about 5.45 lakh tickets held by Pathaan at national chains. The film appears to be well-placed to challenge that figure. Beyond that, the overall record across national chains is held by Avengers: Endgame, which sold over one million tickets in advance. At that time, four national chains were operational—counting PVR and INOX separately. Following the pandemic, Carnival Cinemas shut down, though many of its screens were later taken over by the remaining chains.
Beating the Avengers: Endgame record might prove difficult for Dhurandhar: The Revenge, as a significant portion of first-day demand is already being fulfilled through preview screenings. However, if preview sales are included, crossing that milestone becomes much more achievable.
Top Bollywood films by first-24-hour ticket sales at national chains
Jawan – 1,50,000 tickets
Dhurandhar: The Revenge – 1,25,000 tickets (+ 2,90,000 preview bookings)
Pathaan – 1,22,000 tickets
Sultan – 1,00,000 tickets
The figures for Sultan are estimated. These titles are believed to be the only Bollywood films to have crossed the 1 lakh ticket mark in the first 24 hours at national cinema chains. However, some earlier films—particularly before 2022—might not appear on the list due to limited tracking data, as systematic monitoring of advance bookings at national chains has only become widespread in recent years.
