The buzz surrounding a biopic on legendary actress Madhubala has been steadily growing. Over the past few months, several actresses, including Kiara Advani and Aneet Padda, were rumored to be in contention for the lead role in the much-awaited film. However, industry insiders quickly dismissed these reports as unfounded. Recently, it has come to light that Sai Pallavi was also among the names being considered to portray the iconic star on screen.
Sai Pallavi was among the choices for Madhubala’s biopic
South Indian star Sai Pallavi was reportedly one of the actresses being considered for the lead role in the upcoming biographical film on Madhubala. According to a report by Filmfare, the actress was among filmmaker-producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s preferred options. Sources revealed that Bhansali was keen on casting a fresh face to portray Madhubala. Since Sai Pallavi had not yet made her debut in Bollywood, she was seen as a suitable choice for the role.
However, the discussions did not progress further, and the plan to cast Sai Pallavi was eventually shelved. While the exact reason behind the decision remains unclear, reports suggest that scheduling conflicts may have played a part in her not taking up the role of one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated actresses.
Sai Pallavi’s upcoming projects
Although portraying Madhubala did not work out, Sai Pallavi has some major projects lined up. She will be seen playing Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious film Ramayana Part 1. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and features a strong ensemble cast including Yash, Sunny Deol, Raghav Juyal, Ravie Dubey, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Arun Govil, and Kunal Kapoor. Vijay Sethupathi is reportedly being considered for the role of Vibhishana, though an official announcement is yet to be made.
Before that, Sai Pallavi will make her Hindi film debut with Ek Din, which is scheduled to release in theatres on May 1, 2026. Directed by Sunil Pandey, the romantic drama also stars Junaid Khan in the lead role and is backed by Aamir Khan. The film is inspired by the 2016 Thai movie One Day.
