With Jana Nayagan gearing up for its Pongal 2026 release, director H. Vinoth has been opening up about the film—and one of its standout performers, Bobby Deol. The Thalapathy Vijay starrer is set to hit theatres on January 9, 2026, and ahead of the release, Vinoth spoke candidly about why he feels Bollywood hasn’t fully tapped into Bobby Deol’s potential.

H. Vinoth on working with Bobby Deol

In a conversation with Ananda Vikatan, Vinoth praised Bobby Deol’s screen presence and questioned why Hindi cinema sidelined him for so long. According to the filmmaker, Bobby is a natural fit for powerful action roles.

“I honestly don’t know how Hindi cinema let go of Bobby Deol for such a long time,” Vinoth said. “He has everything an action hero needs. When we write certain characters, we always wonder how they’ll translate on screen—but in this role, he delivered far beyond my expectations.”

Vinoth also spoke about Bobby’s quiet personality off camera, contrasting it with the impact he makes on screen. “He’s naturally very reserved, but once the camera rolls, he really commands attention. He leaves a strong impression. If I ever get the chance to make a Hindi film, I would absolutely want to do an action project with him. That’s how much I enjoyed working with him.”

More about Jana Nayagan

Jana Nayagan is a political action drama and marks Thalapathy Vijay’s final film before stepping away from cinema. Bobby Deol plays the main antagonist, while the supporting cast includes Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Prakash Raj, Narain, and several others.

Written and directed by H. Vinoth, the film follows a former police officer who chooses to stand up against injustice and gradually becomes a symbol of hope and resilience. Living a solitary life, he also takes responsibility for protecting a young girl and helping her overcome her fears. As new threats emerge and an old enemy resurfaces, he’s forced to fight for something far greater than personal revenge.

With strong performances, a politically charged narrative, and Vijay’s farewell to the big screen, Jana Nayagan is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2026.
