The Kerala Story 2 Opens Well at the Box Office, Collects ₹5.50 Cr Nett

The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond has made a promising start at the Indian box office, raking in approximately ₹5.50 crore nett. Interestingly, ₹75 lakh came from limited Friday evening shows, while the bulk of the earnings — around ₹4.75 crore — came on Saturday.

Although Saturday was technically the film’s second day of release, earlier restrictions meant shows could only start in the evening on Friday. That effectively made Saturday the real opening day for audiences.

How the Sequel Compares to the Original

The first Kerala Story, released in 2023, was a blockbuster. It opened with ₹6.75 crore nett and eventually went on to collect nearly ₹225 crore during its full run. That film made a bold statement rather than being subtle, and it found particular traction in the Hindi-speaking regions. In trade circles, it was even joked that the movie played almost like an “educational film” in some parts of the country.

The sequel seems to be following a similar path. Even without star power, the fact that it has opened well shows that the intellectual property still carries value. While films like The Bengal Files saw a sharp decline after the success of The Kashmir Files, The Kerala Story 2 has managed to avoid a similar drop-off.

What Lies Ahead

While the original film’s explosive trajectory is unlikely to be repeated, the sequel doesn’t need to match it to be considered successful. There’s an open window at the box office until the release of Dhurandhar 2, with Toxic arriving on March 19.

If the film can connect with its target audience, it could enjoy a steady run over the next few weeks and continue performing well. The early numbers indicate that The Kerala Story 2 is off to a healthy start — and that’s a positive sign for the franchise.
