Ranbir Kapoor’s next collaboration with director Nitesh Tiwari is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films in recent Bollywood history. The makers recently released a first look of Kapoor as Lord Rama from the upcoming epic Ramayana, and fans are already buzzing. But there’s more: Kapoor has revealed that he will actually be playing dual roles—both Lord Rama and Lord Parshurama—in the two-part saga.
Ranbir Kapoor on Playing Two Iconic Roles
After the teaser launch in Los Angeles, Kapoor opened up to Collider about the challenge and excitement of portraying two very distinct avatars of Lord Vishnu. In a candid video, he explained how he prepared for the roles and the deep research that went into understanding these legendary figures.
“Lord Vishnu had different avatars,” Kapoor said. “Lord Rama was an avatar, and Lord Parshurama came before him. Just to get the opportunity to play Lord Rama, and also Parshurama, was fantastic.”
He added, “As an actor, it’s not just about body language. If you truly understand the spirituality and emotional depth of these characters, everything else follows. That’s what I focused on in the year leading up to Ramayana—understanding who these people were, what they stood for, and their motivations.”
From Hesitation to Destiny
Interestingly, Kapoor initially hesitated to take on the role. During the Ramayana event in New York, he revealed that when producer Namit Malhotra offered him the part four years ago, his first reaction was:
“No, I’m not fit enough, not good enough, and I won’t be able to do full justice.”
However, a personal milestone—becoming a father—helped him embrace the part, and now, fans can hardly imagine anyone else playing these roles with the conviction Kapoor brings.
Star-Studded Cast and Release Plans
Alongside Kapoor, Ramayana features a stellar lineup: Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lord Lakshman, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. Part 1 of the epic is expected to release around Diwali 2026, with Part 2 following around Diwali 2027.
With dual roles, a legendary storyline, and a powerhouse cast, Kapoor and Tiwari’s Ramayana is already shaping up to be a cinematic event of the decade.
