Project Hail Mary Hits Big in India, Second Weekend Looks Even Stronger
Ryan Gosling’s Hollywood sci-fi adventure Project Hail Mary is flying high at the Indian box office, showing that audiences are warming up to standalone Hollywood releases beyond the usual franchises. The film’s momentum is set to continue, with the second weekend expected to outperform the first.
On its second Friday, coinciding with Good Friday, the film collected around ₹4.50 crore (approx. $480K), marking a 35% jump compared to the previous Friday. While the holiday boosted numbers, weekday collections had already been strong, and early shows for today suggest the growth isn’t just holiday-driven – audiences are genuinely enjoying it.
With this trend, the film could see its biggest single-day collection yet. After nine days, Project Hail Mary has raked in roughly ₹34 crore (approx. $3.61 million). The second weekend is projected to bring in around ₹18 crore, pushing the total past ₹47 crore (approx. $5 million) by Sunday. By Tuesday, it’s expected to cross the ₹50 crore mark, a target that initially seemed ambitious after opening weekend.
Looking ahead, the film’s longevity will determine its final tally. Hollywood releases that resonate in India can sustain for weeks – last year, F1 The Movie ended up grossing around ₹125 crore, with more than ₹35 crore coming after the third week. If Project Hail Mary continues its current trajectory, it could surpass ₹75 crore, and there’s a strong chance it might even reach ₹100 crore, depending on audience reception in the coming weeks.
This performance is notable because India’s market for Hollywood films is largely dominated by franchises and established brands. Project Hail Mary is proving that a standalone story, when well-made and well-received, can break through.
