The Odia music fraternity is in mourning as renowned composer and singer Abhijit Majumdar passed away on January 25, 2026, at the age of 54. He died at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he had been receiving treatment for high blood pressure and liver-related ailments.
Majumdar was a towering figure in the Odia music industry, known for his immense contribution to film and album compositions. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he composed over 700 songs, earning both critical acclaim and a devoted fan following. Some of his most loved works include Love Story, Sister Sridevi, Golmaal Love, Mr. Majnu, and Sundergarh Ra Salman Khan. His sudden demise has left fans, colleagues, and well-wishers in deep shock.
In the weeks leading up to his passing, Majumdar had been battling multiple health complications. He was first admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar on September 4, 2025, and by the end of December, his health had shown signs of improvement. Sadly, his condition deteriorated in the late hours of January 24, and he was placed on life support before eventually succumbing to his illness.
Tributes have poured in from across the music industry and political sphere, with many remembering him not just as a composer but as a mentor and inspiration to countless artists. Fans also expressed heartfelt grief at the loss of a man who had defined an era in Odia music.
Born in Cuttack, Majumdar began his musical journey in 1991 and quickly became one of Odisha’s most influential music composers. His work helped shape the soundscape of Odia cinema and popular music for over 30 years.
Abhijit Majumdar is survived by his wife, Ranjita Majumdar, and their son. His passing marks not only the loss of a gifted musician but the end of an era in Odia music—a legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.
