Mardaani 3, directed by Abhiraj Minawala, saw a noticeable drop on its second Monday, falling around 35% compared to last Friday. The Rani Mukerji-led cop action drama added approximately ₹1.25 crore on Day 11, taking its total to about ₹36 crore nett at the Indian box office.
The film’s second week is expected to close at roughly ₹14 crore, which should push the overall total closer to the ₹40 crore nett mark in India.
Competition Ahead
The real test begins this weekend, when Shahid Kapoor’s O’ Romeo hits cinemas. With a new release entering the fray, Mardaani 3 is likely to lose a significant number of screens and show timings.
If it manages to hold steady despite the competition, the film could wrap up its theatrical run at around ₹45 crore nett domestically — a figure similar to the lifetime total of Mardaani 2 in India. Globally, the film is expected to finish at approximately ₹65 crore gross.
Budget & Economics
One noticeable trend in the industry lately is the sharp rise in production costs. Films that once cost “X” are now being made at 2X — and sometimes even 3X — putting added pressure on box office performance.
In that context, Mardaani 3 appears to be relatively well-managed. While its budget is reportedly about double that of Mardaani 2, it is still considered controlled. Strong non-theatrical recoveries (satellite, digital, and music rights) have also helped cushion the economics.
