Yash Raj Films’ latest release, Mardaani 3, starring Rani Mukerji in the lead, continues its steady run at the box office. On its third Monday, the cop action drama collected an estimated ₹50 lakh. That marks a 55% drop from Sunday and about 15% lower than last Friday — a fairly typical weekday trend in its third week.

The film’s third-week total currently stands at ₹3.95 crore nett. It is expected to close the week in the ₹5–5.5 crore range, which would push its overall India total comfortably past the ₹45 crore mark.

Set to Become the Highest-Grossing Film in the Franchise

Mardaani 3 is now on track to emerge as the biggest earner in the franchise, surpassing Mardaani 2, which had a lifetime collection of ₹46 crore nett at the Indian box office.

If current trends hold, the film is likely to finish its theatrical run somewhere between ₹48 crore and ₹50 crore nett. In today’s post-pandemic environment — where even A-list, male-led star vehicles have struggled — that would count as a strong result for a female-led action thriller.

In fact, the Mardaani series remains the only consistently successful female-led franchise in mainstream Hindi cinema.

A Controlled Budget Makes the Difference

One major issue plaguing the industry right now is ballooning production costs. Films that once cost “X” are now being made at double or even triple that amount.

Mardaani 3, however, appears to have avoided that trap. Although its budget is reportedly about twice that of Mardaani 2, the film benefited from strong non-theatrical deals (including satellite and digital rights), ensuring that overall cost recovery was never in doubt.

The theatrical share alone is expected to land around ₹25 crore, making the project a profitable venture for the studio.
