Mardaani 3 is quietly building momentum at the box office.

The Rani Mukerji–led thriller earned an estimated ₹3.5 crore nett on its second Saturday, registering a strong 80% jump from Friday. That kind of growth is a healthy sign, especially in its second week. The film had shown a similar uptick last Sunday, and trade watchers will be hoping it can repeat that performance this weekend as well.

After nine days in theatres, Mardaani 3 has collected around ₹30.5 crore nett in India. Its second weekend is now tracking toward ₹9–9.5 crore, comfortably ahead of Mardaani 2, which managed ₹5.6 crore in its second weekend. Back then, the film had to compete with Dabangg 3 — something Mardaani 3 has largely avoided this time around.

That lack of heavy competition has worked in the film’s favour. With fewer releases crowding the calendar, movies that find the right audience are enjoying longer, more open runs. In many ways, this has brought back some of the upside seen in the pre-pandemic box-office landscape.

The immediate goal for Mardaani 3 is to match the lifetime business of Mardaani 2. Based on current trends, the film appears to be on track, though the next 10 days will be crucial. As long as collections remain steady and big drops are avoided, the film has a clear shot at emerging as a success.

One challenge facing the industry right now is rising production costs. Films that once cost “x” to make are now often budgeted at two or even three times that amount. Mardaani 3 has navigated this issue relatively well. While its budget is about double that of Mardaani 2, the costs remain under control — helped by strong non-theatrical recoveries.
