For nearly a decade, the character of Angoori Bhabhi became a symbol of laughter, charm, and consistency on Indian television. When Shilpa Shinde walked away from Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain in 2016 following a high-profile fallout, the show’s future seemed uncertain. That’s when Shubhangi Atre stepped in, taking on the iconic role and making it her own, keeping the beloved character alive for millions of fans.

Now, with Shilpa returning for Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain 2.0, what many expected to be a joyful homecoming has instead sparked controversy and industry drama.

The controversy begins

The friction started during a recent interview with IANS, when Shilpa was asked about comparisons between her portrayal and Shubhangi’s. She reportedly said, “Mujhe isme koi comparison nahi dikhti” (I don’t see any comparison here).

While Shilpa may have meant it as a statement of her own unique take on the character, many in the industry and online perceived it differently — as a lack of acknowledgment for Shubhangi, who had carried the role for nearly nine years. The comment quickly went viral on social media, drawing reactions from fans and fellow actors alike.

Falaq Naazz voices her disapproval

The backlash wasn’t limited to fans. TV personalities stepped forward to defend Shubhangi’s hard work. Among them, Falaq Naazz, known from Bigg Boss OTT, shared her thoughts in a candid Instagram post.

“You left the show with a ‘Tata, bye-bye,’” Falaq reminded Shilpa, highlighting that the character thrived because of someone else’s dedication during her absence. She added that, in her view, the situation called for grace and gratitude, not dismissal. In her now-deleted story, Falaq wrote that she would have thanked the actress who kept the character relevant and returned the role without drama.

Her final words struck a chord: “You’re not being overly confident—you’re being rude. Very sad.”

Fans caught in the middle

Shilpa Shinde’s return has left fans in a dilemma. On one hand, there’s nostalgia and excitement for the original Angoori. On the other, there’s respect for Shubhangi, who nurtured the character for years. The debate now centers on loyalty versus star power — and Shilpa’s recent remarks have only intensified it.

In the world of television, while characters belong to the writers, their hearts are shaped by the actors who bring them to life. This unfolding drama serves as a reminder that a little professional gratitude can go a long way — especially when stepping back into a house someone else has kept warm for you.
