Border 2 Opens Strong, Sells 22,000 Advance Tickets Across National Chains

Sunny Deol’s Border 2, starring Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, has made a promising start at the box office. On the first day of advance bookings, the film sold around 22,000 tickets across national chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis. Smaller chains also saw healthy interest, with Rajhans Cinemas selling roughly 1,200 tickets. Ticketing platform BookMyShow reports over 50,000 tickets sold so far, including overall weekend and non-national chain sales.

The advance buzz has translated into nearly Rs 1.50 crore nett in opening-day sales. While these numbers are solid, industry insiders note that Border 2 was initially expected to see slightly higher advance demand. Analysts estimate the film could ultimately sell 150,000–175,000 tickets at national chains and generate around Rs 10–12 crore nett in first-day advance. For comparison, Gadar 2 sold 275,000 tickets across national chains for its first-day advance, with Rs 15 crore nett — though that film faced capacity constraints due to a clash with OMG 2.

Border 2 has some advantages: its blockbuster pricing and the absence of major clashes could allow for stronger walk-in numbers, potentially bringing in around Rs 35 crore nett on opening day. The patriotic theme also gives it an edge heading into the Republic Day holiday, which is likely to boost attendance further.

The key now will be audience reception, as the film is the type that typically gains momentum closer to release. Following a mixed 2025 for Hindi cinema, which ended on a high note with the record-breaking Dhurandhar, Border 2 seems poised to continue that strong start into 2026, setting the stage for a year full of major releases.
