Akhanda 2, the much-awaited sequel to Nandamuri Balakrishna’s 2021 blockbuster Akhanda, has locked a new release date after an unexpected last-minute delay. Directed by Boyapati Sreenu, the fantasy action drama was originally scheduled to release on December 5, 2025, but the plans were changed just hours before its worldwide opening.
The makers have now confirmed that Akhanda 2 will officially hit theatres on December 12, 2025, with special premiere shows planned for December 11.
Official Announcement From the Makers
The production team shared the update through their official social media handles, writing that audiences can “feel the massive power of Akhanda 2 in theatres from December 12 with grand premieres on December 11.”
The announcement quickly gained traction online, with fans expressing relief after days of uncertainty.
Why Akhanda 2 Was Postponed
According to early industry discussions, the sudden postponement stemmed from financial disagreements among the stakeholders. Senior members of the Telugu film fraternity reportedly intervened to resolve the issue, but the matter could not be settled before the original release date.
Even the premiere shows earlier planned for December 4, 2025 were cancelled, leaving fans unsure about the film’s status until the new announcement was made.
About Akhanda 2
Akhanda 2 continues the journey of the powerful Aghora Akhanda Rudra Sikandar, portrayed by Balakrishna, as he confronts new adversaries and a deeper threat to peace.
The sequel, directed once again by Boyapati Sreenu, is expected to expand on the theme of good versus evil, with Balakrishna reportedly appearing in dual roles.
The film features an impressive ensemble cast, including:
Samyuktha
Aadhi Pinisetty
Harshaali Malhotra
Kabir Duhan Singh
Saswata Chatterjee
And several others in pivotal roles
The first film, Akhanda, opened to mixed critical response but achieved strong commercial success, gaining a massive fan following for Balakrishna’s intense performance and Boyapati’s signature high-voltage direction.
What’s Next for Nandamuri Balakrishna
Following Akhanda 2, Balakrishna is set to team up with director Gopichand Malineni for the tentatively titled NBK111, a period action drama. The project is expected to feature the actor in another dual-role setup, with Nayanthara likely joining as the female lead.
